It's no longer "nice" that Leslie Cockburn is running for Congress
Leslie Cockburn told her supporters in Nelson County that when she first told people that she was running for Congress in her “red” district, she says one reaction she often got was a dismissive smile and “that’s nice.”
“They didn’t expect our campaign would turn into an army,” Cockburn told her supporters who gathered at the Nelson Heritage Center on September 23, 44 days before Election Day. Polling shows the race to be tightening, with some polls calling it a toss-up or even giving the Democrats a tiny edge in Virginia’s Fifth District.
“There is a big difference” between the Republican and Democratic candidate, Cockburn stressed. In a response to a question from a supporter about Donald Trump’s claiming to “Make America Great Again,” Cockburn replied, “America is great and always has been. But, what about making America fair again?”
