TAKE ACTION

HAVE YOU CAST YOUR BALLOT? Early voting in the important June 17 Democratic primary runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through June 13 and on two Saturdays, June 7 and June 14, at the Nelson County Registrar’s Office, 571 Front St., Lovingston. Six candidates are running for the Lt. Governor nomination, and two for Attorney General.

NO KINGS DAY OF ACTION. Trump’s planned military parade on June 14 (his birthday) will be the subject of a nationwide protest that same day. Indivisible Charlottesville is planning a peaceful protest from noon to 2 p.m. on the public sidewalks at the intersection of Route 29 and Hydraulic Road.

EDUCATING ACTIVISTS. A People’s Summer Activist Series is being held by Indivisible Charlottesville Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. at the Wesley United Method Church in Charlottesville through Aug. 21.

MARGARITAS & MAJORITIES. Charlottesville Area Young Democrats, which includes Nelson County, will hold a fundraiser to support the next generation of Democratic leaders on June 8 from 4:30-6 p.m. at Brazos in Charlottesville. More info and tickets.

OTHER WAYS TO TAKE ACTION !

FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT

THE ACLU shines a bright light on safeguarding the rights of all Americans, including  participating in suing the Trump administration over an unprecedented invocation of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 (as of this writing, a judge has temporarily blocked the removal of immigrants under this act).

THE SOUTHERN ENVIRONMENTAL LAW CENTER advocates for environmental justice in the South, including Virginia, where, for instance, they’re in court to get the Commonwealth back in the widely praised Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (our Trump-supporting governor yanked us out).

LET’S HEAR IT FOR ATTORNEYS GENERAL. Every state has one, but, predictably, it’s the Democratic chief legal officers who are going to court to challenge administration policies (like the dismantling of the Department of Education). What’s notable here is that if we want Virginia to support such suits, one of the first steps is to flip our state attorney general seat from red to blue this November. Find out more about the Democratic candidates and how you can help.
