The Nelson County Democratic Committee is a nonprofit organization of local volunteers. We’re also your friends and neighbors who, like you, are proud to call Nelson County our home.

We also recognize that living in this county, and this country, comes with rights and responsibilities, and we take both seriously. We know how critical it is right now to elect courageous Democratic leaders at all levels of government who will put the people first and accord every individual the respect and dignity they deserve.

There’s nothing more important to us than spending our time and energy to achieve:

  • An economy that works for us, not against us;

  • Guaranteed rights and freedoms that apply equally to all of us;

  • Programs that lift one another up when we’re struggling;

  • A government that abides by the rule of law;

  • Science-based policies that prioritize a cleaner, healthier world for all of us.

Maybe you’re already a volunteer for a worthwhile cause (if so, we applaud you). Maybe you’re coming to realize that you need to be involved to resist current efforts that would take our nation backwards. In 2026, electing Democrats, as always, is our top priority and our best hope to keep our democracy alive and to keep our country moving forward. Your ideas and support are welcome.

Who We Are

The Nelson County Democratic Committee focuses on increasing voter registration and voter turnout for Democrats in all elections. There’s always a great deal of work to do on a local level, and our dedicated volunteers make it happen. Through a wide variety of events and initiatives, our goal is to keep you informed about upcoming elections and actively encourage voter participation:

  • We arrange opportunities for you to hear from Democratic candidates and community leaders through meet-and-greets and public forums;

  • We go door-to-door to connect with residents.

  • We distribute campaign signs around the county;

  • We staff the polls on election day in order to greet voters and answer questions.

  • We show up along Nelson County roads with an enthusiastic team carrying signs in support of our values.

  • We write postcards and distribute literature to promote the Democratic Party.

  • We host our annual DemFest celebration, an incredibly popular get-together (tickets for DemFest 2026 on Sept. 12 are on sale now!).

We’re also active on three main platforms to keep you updated throughout the year:
